The Benefits of Using Flexi Point Paint for Your Roofing NeedsDecember 17, 2021

Flexipoint is a pre-mixed, pre-coloured, trowel-applied, flexible pointing compound used to verge point the ridge caps of cement & terracotta roof tiles. Flexipoint is made from water-based polymers and fillers and is intended to ‘feel’ like cement mortar. It contains no volatile additives and is therefore safe to use. It differs from traditional and inherently brittle cement mortar pointing in that it retains significant post-cure flexibility. This enables it to flex in harmony with roof movements without cracking or breaking away.
The Flexipoint concept has been embraced around Australia since its introduction in 1995 and is still considered the major flexible pointing in use today. Flexi-point is available in a wide variety of colours and is easy to use with no mixing required. The product is guaranteed for 10 years from the date of purchase. And will not crack or break away from the foundation.
Flexipoint™ is a trowel-applied, custom coloured, permanently flexible adhesive that points to the ridge caps of cement & terracotta tiled roofs. It comprises water-based organic polymers and mineral pozzolans that hydrate to form a strong yet flexible cement.
Application Guide and Equipment
Flexipoint™ parallels the traditional method for bedding and pointing tile roofs. Flexipoint™ should be applied at a uniform thickness of 3-5mm over a normal 4:1 yellow brick sand/cement bedding. The bedding cement should be finished plumb and free of large holes and voids, ensuring no bedding residue is left on the edge of the ridge cap bedding interface. Flexipoint™ may be applied over a fully cured bedding, or it can be applied over wet (just laid) bedding, but please allow additional curing time in this case.
Surface Preparation: Ensure a clean surface by removing all dirt, dust, grease and oil.
Precautions and Limitations
Recommendations on surface preparation and product application must be observed. Curing Time In temperate conditions of 25º C and 50% relative humidity the product may be expected to be rain resistant in around 2 hours of application. However, a longer cure time is required when the product is applied over wet bedding, and where the temperature is below 15º C or relative humidity is above 70%.
Flexipoint is super easy to use on most cement and terracotta tiles. There are only four simple steps to ensure the best application and results every time.
Step 1
Bedding cement should be fully trowelled, finished plumbing and free of large holes & voids, ensuring no bedding cement residue is left on the edge of the ridge cap interface. Flexipoint may be applied over a fully cured bedding, or it can be applied over a wet (just laid) bedding – however, allow for additional curing time in this situation.
Step 2
Use Flexipoint straight from the bucket. Nothing to add, just stir before using. (It freshens up the mix). Using a round nose pointing trowel, apply the Flexipoint to the bedded top ridge cap tiles, hip cap tiles, ridge cap collars and gable ends (if required).
Step 3
Flexipoint should be trowelled at a uniform thickness of 3mm to 5mm, over a recommended 4:1 yellow brick sand/cement bedding mix. Smooth off the Flexipoint to a beautiful steeled finish for that professional appearance.
Step 4
Complete the application by inserting the weep holes once the product has cured off sufficiently.
